Surgical Excision

Surgical excision is a precise procedure where a skin cancer, mole, or lesion is carefully cut out along with a small margin of healthy skin. It is the gold standard treatment for many skin cancers and ensures the area is thoroughly removed for both cure and safety.

At DermLab, excisions are performed by Dermatologists — skin cancer specialists — in our fully equipped surgical rooms.

Why It’s Used

  • Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC)

  • Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC)

  • Melanomas

  • Suspicious or changing moles

  • Benign lesions requiring removal (cosmetic or symptomatic)

How It Works

  1. Preparation – The skin is cleaned and numbed with local anaesthetic (you remain awake and comfortable).

  2. Removal – The Dermatologist excises the lesion with a margin of healthy tissue.

  3. Closure – The wound is carefully stitched to promote healing and minimise scarring.

  4. Pathology – The excised tissue is sent to a laboratory to confirm the diagnosis and ensure the lesion has been completely removed.

  5. Aftercare – Instructions are provided on wound care, stitch removal (if non-dissolving), and follow-up.
