Full Skin Examination
A Full Skin Examination is a head-to-toe check of your skin by a Dermatologist. It is the safest and most reliable way to detect skin cancers (melanoma, BCC, SCC), precancerous spots (actinic keratoses), suspicious moles or growths, and other skin conditions of concern. In New Zealand, where UV exposure is among the highest in the world, regular skin checks save lives.
Why It’s Used
Early detection of skin cancer – the earlier it’s found, the easier it is to treat
One-visit convenience – most biopsies are done on the spot, avoiding delays
Reassurance – peace of mind about spots or moles you may be worried about
Monitoring – keeping track of changes in moles or sun damage over time
Preventive care – advice to protect your skin and reduce future risks
How It Works
Consultation – You’ll discuss your personal and family history of skin cancer, sun exposure, and any spots that worry you.
Examination – The Dermatologist will carefully examine your skin from head to toe, using dermoscopy (a specialised skin microscope) to assess moles and lesions in detail.
Immediate Action – If a mole or spot looks concerning, a biopsy can usually be carried out immediately during the same appointment. This means no waiting, no repeat visits, and faster answers.
Discussion & Plan – Results, treatment options, and follow-up intervals are explained, along with advice on sun protection and self-checks.
