Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)

Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is a procedure that removes excess eyelid skin and fat, restoring a brighter, more youthful appearance. Over time, eyelids naturally loosen, leading to sagging skin, puffiness, and a “tired” look. In some cases, excess eyelid skin may even interfere with vision. At DermLab, blepharoplasty is performed by Dermatologist surgeons under local anaesthetic, ensuring comfort and safety without the risks of general anaesthetic.

How It Works

  1. Consultation – A Dermatologist surgeon assesses your eyelids, goals, and suitability

  2. Anaesthesia – Local anaesthetic is injected to numb the eyelid area; you remain comfortable and awake throughout

  3. Surgery – Small incisions are made in natural eyelid creases; excess skin and, if required, fat pads are removed or repositioned; the incision is closed with fine sutures, hidden within the natural fold of the eyelid

  4. Recovery – Most patients go home the same day. Stitches are removed in 5–7 days

Safety & Suitability

  • No general anaesthetic – safer and less invasive

  • Comfortable – eyelids are fully numbed during the procedure

  • Minimal downtime – awake and mobile immediately after

  • Faster recovery – able to go home the same day

What it Improves

  • Drooping upper eyelids (“hooded eyes”)

  • Excess skin weighing down the eyelids

  • Puffiness or bulging caused by fat pads

  • Tired, aged appearance of the eyes

  • Vision partially blocked by overhanging skin (in some patients)

What to Expect

  • Procedure time – 1–2 hours

  • Recovery – mild swelling and bruising for 1–2 weeks; many return to work within 7–10 days

  • Results – refreshed, natural-looking eyes without altering your natural shape

  • Longevity – results often last 10+ years, though ageing continues
